A growing trend in the Heating, Air Conditioning, and Ventilation business is setting homes up with a Zoned HVAC System. But what does that mean?
Per Lennox.com, “An HVAC zoning system (also referred to as “zoned HVAC”) is a heating and cooling system that uses dampers in the ductwork to regulate and redirect air to specific areas of the home. This allows for the creation of customized temperature zones throughout the home for increased comfort and efficiency.”
Why Do I Need a Zoned HVAC System?
The traditional way to heat or cool a house is to set one temperature throughout the entire house. This method doesn’t take into account the basement that is much cooler than the main floor, or the upstairs rooms that are sweltering hot in summer, or bedrooms that you want to keep cooler/warmer at night than the rest of the house.
Zoned systems have also been found to increase the longevity of your furnace and air conditioning units, because they will be cycling on and off less. You can also expect an increase in the energy efficiency of your house with the installation of a proper zoned system. Modern zoning systems can even let you adjust the temperature in a zone remotely with your smartphone or tablet.

How Do I Get a Zoned System?
There are different levels of systems that you can get for your new home build, or to retrofit an older house. You can install dampers in your ductwork that operate either manually or automatically. You can also install special, variable speed equipment in your house to handle the customized demands of each zone.
